The incredible house stayed in the family. Only a short drive to popular hiking and rock-climbing spots, farmer’s markets and local artisans, each site also boasts views of the Catskills or Shawangunk Mountains.
As one approaches the house, the exterior palette leaves a lasting impression.
The soft art-deco inspired curves and warm colours continue out into the landscape with freeform sandstone paving and verdant green garden beds surrounding the dwelling. Completed in 1937, Fallingwater was the vacation home of the Kaufmann family from Pittsburgh, about 63 miles away. Waterfalls Properties brings modern design and contemporary living to the town of Kerhonkson, just west of Poughkeepsie in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Inspired by the meditative forces of nature, the Waterfall house is a modern rendition of an urban sanctuary, and home to the Vashisht family in Jalandhar, Punjab. Spotted gum is used throughout the interior in joinery, furniture and wall panelling, complementing the warm earthy tones found on the exterior.
Waterfall house series#
Internally, a series of level changes addresses the fall of the site and defines spaces, while maintaining connections between. Sinuous glass rolls delicately underneath the brick façade embracing the sculptural nature of the additions and allows the new living spaces to flow from one room to the next. With a desire for art-deco touches and warm, calm spaces, the curved original façade is echoed by the monolithic cream brick addition. As their new building was called Waterfall House the space was perfect for us to design the hospital their very own internal waterfall. A second brand, Reddford House, was then launched in. Reddam House joined the international school group Inspired, which escalated the growth of the Reddam House brand further. Located in Glen Iris’ Summerhill Estate, known for its consistent character of brick interwar dwellings, Waterfall House embraces and expands on the period features of the small art-deco house while increasing space and liveability for its occupants. A newly constructed state of the art Reddam House Waterfall school then opened its doors in 2012 in a residential property development on the outskirts of Johannesburg.
